A 1.5 litre bottle of Keermont Vineyards Single Vineyard Series Pondokrug Cabernet Franc 2016

Alex has always loved the fruit coming from this small block of Cabernet Franc. He has been using it in the estate red blend since 2007. In 2014 he decided to certify and bottle it as a single vineyard wine under the name Pondokrug. The name was found on an old map. Historically, the area where Keermont lies was grazing land and two shepherds’ huts was found on the mountainside. Pondokrug translated, means ridge with a hut on it.

We still include a small portion of the block in our flagship, Keermont Amphitheatre. This 1.8-hectare parcel of top-notch Cabernet Franc lies on a 380m ridge on the cooler, west facing Stellenbosch Mountainside of the farm. It was planted in 2006 and is surrounded by beautiful indigenous fynbos. It is exposed to many natural elements resulting in very low yields. The berries are small and concentrated, which turn into a concentrated, intense wine with unique flavours and a solid tannin structure.

The Pondokrug Cabernet Franc 2016 is complex and intriguing with tight, grainy tannins with a long, succulent and fresh finish. Drink now to 2035.
