About this Item
2 x 1.5 litre bottles comprising Rall White 2022 and Rall Red 2021
The White is widely regarded as one of the finest blends coming out of the Cape. It is a blend of Chenin Blanc, Verdelho and Viognier from the Swartland and Stellenbosch.
Donovan’s Red is always matured for an extra year in bottle compared to the other wines and this rustic, dense wine requires some cellaring for it to be fully appreciated. It is a Syrah-dominated blend with some Carignan, Cinsault and Grenache.
Rall White 2022
The Rall white is an 80/20 cuvée of Swartland and Stellenbosch grapes, combining Chenin Blanc with 24% Verdelho and 4% Viognier. Showing some subtle struck match reduction, it displays flavours of citrus, beeswax and apricot, very understated oak spices and surprising weight and concentration for a wine with 12.5% alcohol. Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2023, 94/100, awarded 5-stars by Platter’s Guide.
Rall Red 2021
Syrah 78%; Grenache 13%; Carignan 7% and Cinsault 2%. Purple and red fruit, herbs and pepper from the whole-bunch fermentation, and a clean, focussed palate.
Matured in old French oak for 10 months before being bottled unfined and lightly filtered with a further 18 months bottle maturation before release this wine will definitely reward patience and gain complexity over the next decade. Awarded 5-stars by Platter’s Guide.
These wines are packed in a wooden box.
