100% Syrah

This wine was made by Shanice under the mentorship of Charles Hopkins whilst she was at De Grendel Wine Estate during her second year as a Protégé.

The grapes travelled 1.5 hours from Ceres, after which they were crushed and destemmed. A portion of the stems were kept and dried for a day before adding them back. For extraction, three punch-downs a day with a gentle aeration was done and as the fermentation slowed down, two punch-downs a day to wet the cap. The grapes were pressed and put into a first-fill 225 litre French oak barrel where it matured for 12 months.

Intense red fruit aromas such as cherries and raspberries with hints of fynbos and kitchen spices on the nose. Nuances of vanilla from the oak are evident with hints of sweet spice and peppercorns. Fresh acidity and fine tannins with a layered palate and lovely length.

This wine is packed in a wooden box.
