Ruan Huisamen, born in 1991 Cape Town, South Africa, is a self-taught artist with no formal training. Initially using graphite pencil, he now focuses on charcoal-based works. After an apprenticeship under Louis Jansen van Vuuren in 2012, he became a full-time artist. In addition to having been nominated for the Absa L’ Atelier, Sasol New Signatures, National Portrait and Sanlam Vuleka awards, his works are also held in private collections in Spain, France, England, Canada and the United States.
