Sophia van Wyk (b. 1981, Pietermaritzburg) completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Stellenbosch in 2003 and graduated cum laude with a Master of Fine Art from the University of Johannesburg in 2015. In addition to her fine arts qualifications, she has training in furniture making, specialising in wood machining and cabinet making. Between 2007 and 2013, she led various community engagement workshops and artist talks, which significantly shaped her artistic practice.

Sophia's most recent solo exhibition, Future Mythology, was held at Everard Read Cape Town from 11 May to 1 June 2022. She has participated in numerous group exhibitions across South Africa, including at NIROX Sculpture Park, and has received residencies both locally and internationally. In 2024, she is set to participate in the International Public Arts Festival in Cape Town and will have a solo exhibition and residency at NIROX Sculpture Park in Johannesburg in November.
