Notes

Cathy Abraham specializes in process-based art. She earned an MFA with Distinction from the University of Cape Town's Michaelis School of Fine Arts in 2018, which culminated in the solo exhibition A Deeper Kind of Nothing. Her work spans film, mixed media, installation, painting, and sculpture, guided by her subject matter. Abraham employs repetitive gestures to explore daily life's patterns, blurring the lines between reality, fantasy, and illusion. She terms the repeated brushstrokes in her works as 'ghosts,' symbolizing trauma's haunting presence, numbered in reference to the Kabbalah, challenging conventional notions of time and space by melding past, present, and future.
