Notes
Born in 1966 in Cape Town, Christine Dixie has participated in notable international group exhibitions, including Earth Matters: Earth as Material and Metaphor (2007) and The Divine Comedy: Heaven, Purgatory and Hell (2012) at the Smithsonian Museum of African Art. Her installation To Be King was featured in Personal Structures at Palazzo Bembo in Venice (2017) and showcased at various festivals, including the International Festival at the Coronet Cinema in London and the Kaunas Art Festival in Lithuania (2018), as well as at Iwalewahaus in Bayreuth, Germany (2022). Recent exhibitions include @ Bathurst St., Makhanda (2022), Blueprint for the Disorder of Things, WAM (2022), and The Harbingers (2022). The prints from the Bathurst St. exhibition reflect the intersection of colonial history and contemporary digital narratives, using woodcut techniques to evoke the style of engravings from European newspapers that depicted frontier life, while framing new stories through the lens of modern technology.
