Notes

Corlie de Kock (b. 1977) holds a BA in Fine Arts and Philosophy and a Master’s degree in Visual Arts from the University of Stellenbosch. She furthered her studies in Hamburg, Germany, under Prof. Werner Büttner, a prominent figure in New Expressionism. De Kock has a rich background as an art educator and curator, focusing on art as a visual language and a form of communication. Her work explores visual images as narratives, the psychological state of viewers, and themes related to the inner child and the cultural interpretation of space and landscape. Notable achievements include being a Top 5 finalist for the Sanlam Portrait Award in 2017 and receiving a merit award at VULEKA in 2012. Her works are housed in collections across Germany, Italy, France, the UK, and the USA, as well as in South African institutions like the ATKV permanent collection and the Boer War Museum. De Kock employs the Renaissance technique of Chiaroscuro in her contemporary drawings, creating contrasts between light and dark, nature and culture, and the past and present.
