Notes

David Kuijers, born in 1962 near Johannesburg to Dutch immigrant parents, studied at the Pretoria School of Art, Music & Ballet, where he excelled in graphic art and won the Best Painter award in 1980. After completing military service, he worked as a signwriter before pursuing a Graphic Design degree at Cape Technikon, graduating as the top student. David freelanced as a designer and illustrator for ten years before becoming a full-time artist in 1999, with notable commissions from Woolworths, The President Hotel, and Medi-clinics. Married to fellow artist Dina Kuijers, David is a proud father of three, two of whom are also artists. His work is characterized by clever wordplay and strong graphic execution, often reflecting an overtly positive outlook, with the theme of "Play" woven throughout.
