Notes

South African painter Diane Mclean was born in Grahamstown in 1963. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1984 and a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1987 from Rhodes University. Between 1988 and 1999, Mclean lectured in Painting and the History of Art at North-West University. Her paintings of landscapes, portraits, and still lifes (which often include enamel objects) all explore her interest in light. Mclean has exhibited steadily throughout South Africa since the early 1980s and is represented in many public and private collections such as Rhodes University, University of Port Elizabeth, North-West University, and the William Humphreys Art Gallery in Kimberley.
