Gerhard van Eck was born in Cape Town (1977) and grew up in George. After school, he lived in the UK and travelled Africa extensively. His journey as a sculptor commenced in 2009, with his earlier work focused on form and flow. Inspired by Michelangelo, Bernini and Callot, Gerhard is fascinated by anatomy and capturing movement. His larger scale works have been on display at Afrika Burn (2024) and Bazique (2024; 2023). He has exhibited at galleries / exhibitions across South Africa (including Stellenbosch Woordfees 2017 and 2020). Gerhard offers sculpting masterclasses/ workshops, and he has an active local and global client base.
