Notes

Colijn Strydom (b. 1979) is a Cape Town-based artist originally from Pretoria, who obtained his MA in Visual Arts from Stellenbosch University in 2008. His diverse practice encompasses drawing, painting, photography, and performance, often engaging with themes of gender and whiteness through humor and self-reflexive strategies. Strydom draws inspiration from poetry, history, and folktales, with recent exhibitions including participation in the 1-54 Art Fair in London and group shows like "The Other's Warmth" at Everard Read and the Latitudes Art Fair. Currently, he lectures at the Ruth Prowse School of Art. His work is influenced by Sophocles’ "Oedipus the King," exploring themes of obscuring, unveiling, and self-knowledge within a deconstructive framework, weaving personal experiences and autobiographical elements into his artistic narrative.
