Notes
Judy Woodborne, a renowned printmaker and painter, draws inspiration from symbolism, mythology, literature, and the natural sciences. Her innovative approach to printmaking breaks away from traditional editions, creating unique dimensional paper sculptures using various techniques. In her paintings, she explores water not merely as an element but as a symbol representing broader themes of time, death, birth, and reincarnation. Based in Cape Town, Woodborne runs her own printmaking studio. She holds a BA in Fine Arts and a postgraduate diploma in Printmaking with distinction from the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town and earned her Master of Fine Arts with distinction from Michaelis in 1993. Her work has been featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, with pieces held in various local and international collections, including the Iziko South African National Gallery in Cape Town and the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of African Art in Washington, DC.
