Notes

Kevin Collins (b. 1956) is a South African artist known for his vibrant oil paintings that reflect his extensive travels and keen observations. He studied at the Michaelis School of Fine Art at the University of Cape Town under notable artists such as Stanley Pinker and Cecil Skotnes, who shaped his mastery of colour and composition. After a lengthy hiatus from painting due to a career in advertising, a significant health event prompted his return to the canvas.

Collins’ work often features animals and draws from years of collecting and observing in diverse environments. His first solo exhibition, The Taxonomy of Non-Endangered Species, took place in 2003 and received critical acclaim, paving the way for further exhibitions, including notable shows at Grahams Fine Art and Latitudes. His artistic process explores the liminal space between the conscious and unconscious, inviting viewers into a rich tapestry of personal and universal experiences.
