About this Item
“The berry of the vine is unique. This product develops a life of its own, a second life after grapes, and it has this amazing history; it goes back to biblical times. It’s one of the ancient liquids along with olive oil and honey.” - Carl Schultz
100% Merlot
Wine of Origin: Stellenbosch
Winemaker: Carl Schultz
This Merlot stands as South Africa's most scarce and expensive. It marks the second and only 100% terracotta clay amphora-aged red wine to feature on any CWG Auction, following the precedent set by the 2020 vintage. The wine spent 18 months maturing in a hand-made, 400-litre imported Italian clay amphora, imparting unique character and depth. Selected from Hartenberg’s very best site for the varietal, each bottle embodies the essence of excellence and distinction.
Tasting Notes: Vibrant black fruits entice the senses followed by subtle savoury undertones. With remarkable consistency, the weighty palate confirms the dense fruits while dry tannins and acidity add vitality.
