Boschkloof CWG Auction Reserve Shiraz 2005:
Producer Notes: Beautiful violets and ripe mulberry fruit on the nose. Layers of dark fruit – white pepper and oriental spices. Long finish with soft ripe tannins and good wood fruit balance. Very good ageing potential.
Gabriëlskloof Landscape Series Syrah on Shale 2018:
‘Richer, fuller than sibling, 2018 has gentle muscle & silkiness carrying with some length the dark-berry flavours. Liveliness in firm yet juicy tannins gives form; further harmony & medium-term ageing promised. Year older oak. 2017 (5 stars, 95 pts) more powerful, ageworthy.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2021, 4.5* (93/100)
‘One of a pair of superb Syrahs from Peter-Allan Finlayson, this comes from a parcel at the back of the estate at 220 metres that faces northeast. White pepper and clove aromas segue into a palate that's focused, savoury and spicy with considerable complexity and ageing potential and a core of red berry fruit. Long and elegant. 2022-28’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2020, 95/100
Warwick Black Lady Syrah 2006:
‘Preview 06 a stellar composition of perfectly ripe red fruit, lead pencils & minerality. Bold charry/charcoal oak notes (28 mths wood, 30% new) mid-2009, but ample fruit concentration to support. Will integrate & show even better, just needs time.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2010, 4.5*
‘First release for this 100% Syrah. Tight, baked plum nose, with a touch of smoky bacon and great fruit sweetness coming through, a touch of green. The palate has a big fruit sweetness, with that touch of pea pod green quality persisting, but it is chocolaty and has real weight and density of fruit in the finish.’ – Tom Cannavan, Wine-pages.com, 91/100 (2010)
Waterford Kevin Arnold Shiraz 2006:
‘Ruby-red. Slightly reduced aromas of black raspberry, mocha and leather. Densely packed and spicy, showing more energy and aromatic lift in the middle palate than the lusher 2003. Syrah-typical brown spices carry through to the finish, which shows substantial dusty tannins and finesse.’ - Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 91/100 (Mar 2007)
‘A dash of Mourvèdre (6%) spices up this confident Rhône-style red. 2004 shows wet earth and scrub scents mingled with the wines’s trademark leather tone; round tannins approachable yet with life for 5+ yrs. 16 months oak, American portion down to 20%.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 2008, 4*
