About this Item

2007 La Guiraude Crozes-Hermitage
5 (1 x 5) 750ml

Alain Graillot's La Guiraude Crozes-Hermitage is a flagship wine of the estate, made exclusively from Syrah grapes sourced from selected vineyard sites within the appellation. Crozes-Hermitage is one of the largest appellations in the Northern Rhône Valley and is known for producing high-quality Syrah wines. While not as prestigious as the neighboring Hermitage and Côte-Rôtie appellations, Crozes-Hermitage wines offer excellent value and represent some of the best expressions of Syrah in the region.

Critics Ratings

‘I remember trying this wine soon after it was released. It had shut down and was showing rather lean and tart. But after over a decade in the cellar, it is now singing with all the intensity and allure of Northern Rhône Syrah. Scents of smoked meat, black pepper and heady potpourri waft through to the palate where hints of baked black and red currants persist and a sinewy edginess is amplified by the brisk acidity. While not ungenerous, this is trim and sculpted with no excess baggage. It just delivers pure class.’ – Michaela Morris, Decanter.com, 94/100 (Jul 2021)

‘Vivid ruby. Intensely perfumed red and dark berries on the nose, with notes of potpourri and allspice adding complexity. Sweet, penetrating black raspberry and blueberry flavors are framed by silky tannins and lifted by a zesty mineral note. Finishes with excellent clarity, exotic floral and spice notes and admirable persistence. Like the basic bottling this is delicious right now but possesses the concentration and balance to reward patience. This year the Guiraude was a selection of 22 out of 300 total barriques of Crozes, according to Maxime Graillot.’ – Josh Raynolds, Vinous, 92/100 (Jan 2010)

‘A supertaut, traditional style, with grilled herb, tobacco and tangy red and black currant fruit laid over a racy, iron-filled finish. Rock-solid, with excellent cut. Should blossom with cellaring. Best from 2010 through 2018.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 92/100 (Nov 2009)
