About this Item
The pinnacle of the Penfolds red wine range, Grange is a rich, opulent, full-bodied Shiraz, destined for a long cellar life. The winemaking process involves great attention to detail; from selecting the best possible grapes sourced from low-yielding, old Shiraz vines through to fermentation and fastidious oak maturation. The unique and distinctive Grange style is based on ripe Shiraz fruit and stylish American oak in fine harmony.

Critics Ratings
‘90% Shiraz, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. Kalimna, Magill, McLaren Vale, Clare Valley, Coonawarra. 18 months in new American hogsheads. Tremendous beetroot, blackcurrant, chocolate, forest, mushroom. Exotic spices, leathery, dusty maturity.’ – Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com, 18.5/20 (Jun 2013)
‘A wine that seems to get better every time I have it, the 1978 Grange, a blend of 90% Shiraz and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, has turned out to be a blockbuster wine with extraordinary intensity, a voluptuous palate, notes of camphor, coffee, jammy black fruits, leather, and creme de cassis. As the wine sits in the glass, pepper and melted asphalt make an appearance. Very unctuously textured, thick, and chewy, this wine is soft, with a very succulent style. Its color is showing just a touch of amber as this wine approaches its plateau of maturity. Drink it now and over the next 20 years.’ – Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 93/100 (Feb 2002)
