Critics Ratings

Collemattoni Brunello di Montalcino 2014:
‘Bright, deep red. Red cherry, sweet spices and smoky oak on the enticing nose. Strong soil tones complement musky spice, sweet pipe tobacco, and red fruit flavors. Finishes creamy, tactile and long, with polished tannins. Made from Sangiovese grown in vineyards located in all four of the major quadrants of the Montalcino production zone, which allowed owner Adon Bucci to make a highly balanced wine.’ – Ian D’Agata, Vinous, 92/100 (Mar 2019)

Marchesi de' Frescobaldi Nipozzano Riserva Chianti Rúfina 2007:
‘From Frescobaldi's gorgeous Nipozzano estate, this Riserva Sangiovese (with small percentages of Malvasia Nera, Cabernet and Merlot for extra density and intensity) opens with impressive generosity and personality. It offers lingering flavors of cherry, chocolate and dark spice.’ – Wine Enthusiast, 93/100 (Apr 2011)

‘A burly Rufina, offering dried dark fruits and chewy tannins, with an aftertaste of dark chocolate and mineral. Full and satisfying, with fresh acidity on the back palate. A go-to Chianti. Drink now.’ – Wine Spectator, 91/100 (Oct 2010)

‘Deep violet-ruby. Fresh, fruity aromas of red cherry, blueberry and blackberry, with hints of underbrush and minerals; much less spicy, tarry and dark than some other recent vintages of this wine. Then bright and fresh in the mouth, with red cherry, plum and mineral flavors. Finishes smoothly tannic, polite and persistent. One of the better young Nipozzano vintages I recall: this really does remind you of the higher-altitude, cooler Rufina zone.’ – Ian D’Agata, Vinous, 91/100 (Jul 2010)

Marziano Abbona Bricco Barone Nebbiolo d'Alba 2007:
‘The 2007 Nebbiolo d’Alba Bricco Barone offers up ripe, juicy red fruits, flowers, licorice and spices in a fairly rich style. A seamless finish rounds out the Bricco Barone nicely. Readers looking for a Nebbiolo that won’t break the bank will find much to admire here.’ – Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate (Aug 2010)
