Critics Ratings
Le Riche Cabernet Sauvignon 1999:
‘Full, gravelly with blackcurrant and sweet berry fruits. Some grip, too.’ – Jamie Goode, Wineanorak.com, 91/100 (Mar 2014)
‘Ruby-red. Complex aromas of cassis, cherry, green pepper, cedar, violet and cassis leaf, along with tangy oak spices. Dense and peppery on the palate; offers a claret-like penetrating sweetness without excess weight. Youthful flavors of red berries, mint and cedar. Finishes with rather fine tannins and subtle persistence.’ – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous (Jan 2001)
Neil Ellis Cabernet Sauvignon 1997:
‘Red-ruby. Red berries, dark chocolate, mocha and exotic wood notes of sandalwood, mace, nutmeg and lead pencil. Fat, supple and rich, but with noteworthy flavor definition. Finishes with smooth but firm tannins and excellent length. The '97 Neil Ellis Jonkershoek Shiraz above is almost hard by comparison to this very suave cabernet.’ – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 90/100 (Mar 2000)
‘Lavishly oaked, exhibiting green olive, black currant and leafy underbrush aromas and flavors. Very firmly structured, it ends on an astringent component. Best from 2001 through 2004.’ – Bruce Sanderson, Wine Spectator (Apr 2000)
Waterford Cabernet Sauvignon 1999:
The Waterford Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 1999 showcases developed maturity with a complex aromatic profile. The nose reveals a sweeter oak influence characteristic of the American Oak barrels used during Waterford Estate’s younger years. Aromas of leather spice and a pronounced pencil lead dominate, while stewed fruit components of blackcurrants and blackberries add to the wine's interest. On the palate, the wine mirrors its aromatic complexity, with a balanced softened tannin structure creating a luxurious texture. The acidity has matured but remains providing balance and freshness to the wine. The finish is long and lingering, with mineral undertones highlighting the wine’s elegance and aged nature.
