Kanonkop Cabernet Sauvignon 1984:
CellarTracker.com - 93/100
Kanonkop Cabernet Sauvignon 1989:
‘The 1989 Cabernet Sauvignon has a ripe, fairly lactic bouquet with mocha and dark chocolate notes shrouding the core of red fruit. The palate is balanced, perhaps with a slight cork taint? A second bottle is fresher, thankfully without TCA, with more vibrant red fruit, raspberry and crushed strawberry. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy raspberry, Tayberry and a pinch of white pepper. Noticeably, quite Bordeaux-like towards the finish, with a touch of mocha on the aftertaste. This 34-year-old continues to give drinking pleasure.’ – Neal Martin, Vinous, 90/100 (May 2023)
‘12.2% alcohol. Dense and structured with sweet raspberry and cherry fruit with a hint of spice. This is fresh and direct with lovely acidity. Blackcurrant on the palate with nice acidity and a fine, spicy focus. Still has a sense of youth, despite its age.’ – Wineanorak.com, 96/100 (Jul 2023)
Kanonkop Cabernet Sauvignon 1990:
'100% Cabernet. These generally sturdy, long-lived cabernets, deriving richness and power – rather than smooth elegance – from excellent, mature vines and consistent cellar treatment … 1990 surprisingly good – though more one-dimensional – for the vintage.’ - Platter’s SA Wine Guide 1994, 4*
