About this Item
Native of the Rhône Valley, Julien Pilon spent more than 10 years working in Spain and Roussillon, learning winemaking in famous wineries such as Mas Amiel (Roussillon), Terra Remonta (Spain) and Jean Pierre Villa (Rhone). Julien Pilon described himself as a landless winemaker when he started on his own in 2010. He began as a trader and selected the grapes very carefully to vinify. He started with 1.5 hectares, and now the domain is a modest 5 hectares of vines, some owned, some rented, while the majority of the production is still sourced from purchased grapes.

Critics Ratings
‘Bright purple. Mineral-tinged aromas of black raspberry, cherry compote, licorice and candied violet show an exotic Asian spice nuance. At once rich and energetic, offering sappy red and dark berry flavors and hints of floral pastilles and five-spice powder. Picks up a hint of vanilla with air and finishes smooth, spicy and very long, leaving behind a bright mineral note.’ – Josh Reynolds, Vinous, 93/100 (Dec 2015)
‘This ripples with seductive energy, as loganberry, plum and black currant fruit takes on a slightly mulled profile, cruising through with hints of bay, tobacco and iron. Gorgeous black tea and singed alder notes underscore the finish. Best from 2018 through 2029.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (Aug 2017)
‘Raspberries, olives and crushed flowers all emerge from Julien Pilon's 2014 Côte Rôtie La Porchette. It's medium-bodied, supple, seamless and even sexy on the palate, with no hard edges, notable purity and a great finish. Drink it over the coming decade.’ – Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, 91/100 (Dec 2016)
