About this Item
The Clos du Caillou was founded in 1895 as a hunting reserve. In 1955, Paul Pouizin realised the amazing terroir that lay in this forested reserve and cleared portions of the land to plant vines. In 1996, Claude Pouizin’s youngest daughter Sylvie and her husband, Jean-Denis Vacheron, took over at Le Clos du Caillou. Jean-Denis proved an impressive winemaker – led by passion without limit and visionary ideas. Le Clos du Caillou jumped ahead under his management and became one of the best producers in the appellation. After his tragic passing in 2002, Sylvie picked up the reins with help from the talented winemaker Bruno Gaspard. From the 2010 vintage, the domain is certified organic.

Critics Ratings
‘The 2007 Châteauneuf-du-Pape les Quartz (85% Grenache and 15% Syrah) is another tour de force from this incredible vintage in the Southern Rhône. Ripe, full-bodied, supple and seamless, with sensational notes of roasted meats, incense, black currants, leather and spice, this beauty has tons of mid-palate depth, sweet tannin and a huge finish. It’s drunk nicely since release and will easily keep for another decade.’ - Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, 96/100 (Feb 2017)
'Almost confit, roasted red fruits on the nose. Very sweet palate entry. Just a bit simple on the palate. Lots of alcohol, which is a rather dominant.' - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Dec 2008)
'Really gorgeous, delivering layer upon layer of fig, boysenberry, blackberry and blueberry fruit, which stay polished and driven, while graphite, black tea and pastis notes fill in the background. Very rich, but supersilky, with great buried acidity. Drink now through 2029.' - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 95/100 (Mar 2010)
'Glass-staining ruby. Vivid raspberry and mulberry scents are complemented by dried violet and licorice. Showing more vivacity than it did last year, offering sweet red and dark berry flavors and showing no rough edges or obvious tannins. The finish repeats the dark berry and licorice notes and lingers with impressive persistence.' - Josh Reynolds, Vinous, 94/100 (Jan 2010)
