About this Item
Michel’s Chapoutier’s landholding, track record and incredible consistency from entry-level wines through to the single-vineyards is unparalleled in the world of wine. Chapoutier ranked 4th in 2019 amongst the “World's Most Admired Wine Brands“. Chapoutier is one of the oldest names in the Rhone valley. Founded in 1808 by the Calvet family, it was sold to the Chapoutier family in 1855. Today, Michel Chapoutier is the reference-point for the entire Rhône Valley, especially with their single vineyard Sélections Parcellaires. In fact, Robert Parker has praised Chapoutier’s Northern Rhône’s as some of the world’s finest wines.
The Monier de la Sizeranne comes from a blending of different soils from West to East: 'les Bessards', 'le Méal' and 'les Greffieux'.
The name, 'Monier de la Sizeranne' comes from the name of an important Tain l’Hermitage family, who also owned the 'La Sizeranne' vineyard.
A family member Maurice Monier de la Sizeranne, the man responsible for creating a version of Braille, is one of the reasons why Chapoutier has braille on its bottle labels.

Critics Ratings
‘A very rich, authoritative style, with broad structure and lots of cocoa and dark fig paste notes leading the way for ample charcoal, roasted alder, espresso and steeped black currant fruit. Rich and long, this has the depth for cellaring. Best from 2014 through 2024.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 94/100 (Sep 2012)
‘Chapoutier's 2009 Hermitage is a sturdy rendering of the appellation, with chewy tannins framing dark, savory fruit. Hints of charcoal and black olive mark the nose, while the finish lingers astringently. Drink 2018–2025.’ – Joe Czerwinski, Wine Enthusiast, 91/100 (Feb 2015)
‘Lots of peppery, meaty notes are found in this dense purple-colored 2009 along with sweet tannin, a full-bodied, layered mouthfeel and outstanding purity. Three to five years of cellaring will be beneficial, and the wine should keep for two decades.’ – Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Dec 2011)
‘Dark fruit, a little dusty on the nose, rocky, not much lift. On the palate too it seems a little flat, caught between peppery freshness and very ripe richness and not really achieving either. Firm and dry and the tannins are nicely managed but it is just a bit flat and dull.’ – Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Sep 2017)
