About this Item

2008 Monier de la Sizeranne
1 (1 x 1) 750ml

Michel’s Chapoutier’s landholding, track record and incredible consistency from entry-level wines through to the single-vineyards is unparalleled in the world of wine. Chapoutier ranked 4th in 2019 amongst the “World's Most Admired Wine Brands“. Chapoutier is one of the oldest names in the Rhone valley. Founded in 1808 by the Calvet family, it was sold to the Chapoutier family in 1855. Today, Michel Chapoutier is the reference-point for the entire Rhône Valley, especially with their single vineyard Sélections Parcellaires. In fact, Robert Parker has praised Chapoutier’s Northern Rhône’s as some of the world’s finest wines.

The Monier de la Sizeranne comes from a blending of different soils from West to East: 'les Bessards', 'le Méal' and 'les Greffieux'.

The name, 'Monier de la Sizeranne' comes from the name of an important Tain l’Hermitage family, who also owned the 'La Sizeranne' vineyard.
A family member Maurice Monier de la Sizeranne, the man responsible for creating a version of Braille, is one of the reasons why Chapoutier has braille on its bottle labels.

Producer tasting notes: "Appearance: deep garnet red, with purplish lights. Nose: red fruit (raspberry, blackcurrant), with a hint of liquorice. Palate: good attack, round and elegant wine with concentrated and gentle tannins. The final is on blackcurrant, raspberry and spicy (pepper) aromas when it is young." - M. Chapoutier

Critics Ratings

‘Bright ruby. Expressive aromas of dark berries, smoked meat, licorice and black pepper. Supple and open-knit, offering gently sweet blackberry and cherry flavors and notes of olive and candied flowers. Becomes smokier with air and finishes sweet and moderately persistent. This should drink well soon after release.’ – Josh Reynolds, Vinous (Jan 2010)

‘The introductory cuvee of Hermitage, the 2008 Ermitage Monier de la Sizeranne exhibits tart plum and cherry fruit intermixed with hints of pomegranate, red apple skins and vegetable/loamy soil notes, crisp acids and a medium-bodied, elegant style meant for consumption over the next 5-6 years.’ – Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (Feb 2011)
