About this Item
Fiona and Vincent are the second-generation Bührer Family custodians of Saxenburg Wine Estate. Eldest daughter Fiona Bührer, previously partnered with her brother Vincent, take sole ownership of the Polkadraai Hills estate revitalised from 1989 by parents Adrian and Birgit. Fiona and recent winemaker Brendan Smith are pursuing the stylistic changes began in 2020 with the 2nd Generation Syrah, while keeping the focus on that flagship variety and cabernet.
Mapping of altitude, aspect, soil, temperature and solar radiation aids identification of sites that will best reflect both the farm and the appellation. In the cellar, the many pickings of each block are treated individually with the same goal, showcasing the terroir. Already the wines show more freshness and dimension, and developments are being watched with interest.

Critics Ratings
'V special flagship label is growing in stature. Latest 06 has rippling muscle yet gentle poise & silky texture. Seductive floral & aromatic scents over black plum & cherry fruit. Like 05, special occasion red & meat-mate. 18mths oak, all-new.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2011, 5*
'A typical expression of the vintage and the era, and the most ambitious Shiraz from the Cape at the turn of the century. Still bold and burly, showing concentrated, ripe dark fruit coated in oak spice and a layer of savory, meat smoke interest. Powerful, yet silky.' - Higgo Jacobs (2023)
‘Twelve months on from my last encounter, the 2009 Shiraz Select remains a guilty pleasure. This bottle showed more volatility on the nose than the last one, but the palate remains lavish and sweet with succulent black cherries and cassis fruit. It does not quite have the harmony that I recall, although hedonists will probably find it irresistible.’ - Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Nov 2015)
