About this Item
The name of this wine pays tribute to the man who recognized the potential of Rustenberg ,and bought the farm in 1941, reuniting the property, restoring its buildings and investing in its potential to make world class wines. This site-specific Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the oldest vineyard on the estate, high up on the Simonsberg.

Critics Ratings
2011:
'Magisterial Cabernet Sauvignon with a concentrated, impressive presence. 2011 is evolving splendidly, the tannins just starting to meld with the fruit, for drinking with pleasure and respect.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2018, 4.5*
2012:
2012 has some early harmony & notably good savoury balance, getting closest to elegance of the three (though sweet notes on finishes detract for all). ' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2018, 5* (97/100)
'Sweet, creamy cassis fruit. Chewy tannin and overt vanilla oak on the finish. Dry, slightly astringent finish with a touch of sourness.'- Richard Hemming (MW), JancisRobinson.com, 16/20 (Jun 2017)
2013:
'2013 shows more primary fruit, but perhaps less intensity of flavour than previous vintages, and the structure dominating. Nonetheless, also grand.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2018, 4.5* (93/100)
'Big, bold, serious and built to age in bottle, this is a compact, weighty Cabernet Sauvignon with 70% new oak, firmish tannins and a core of dark damson and cassis fruit complemented by notes of mocha, coffee bean and refreshing acidity. 2020-28.' - Tim Atkin SA Special Report 2017, 92/100
