Critics Ratings

‘Cassis with a touch of dark chocolate on the nose. Rich, chewy, with lots of spice. Plenty of oak, plenty of fruit, but lacks real fragrance and finesse. Well made in a now rather predictable style, the alcohol borderline intrusive.’ – Julia Harding MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Oct 2015)

‘Beguiling 2011 continues standard of previous classy cab (63%), shiraz, merlot blends. Cassis purity, seamlessly knit with oak (French & American). Squeeze of tannin in silky & genteel texture. Long, rich & refined.’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2015, 4.5*

‘This Cabernet Sauvignon-based blend—with 30% Shiraz, 5% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot—opens with aromas of blackberry leaf, cassis, black plum and green peppercorn, with hints of fig and leather in the background. The palate is warm, concentrated and gripping, with firm tannins and dense, dark black-fruit flavors that are framed by charred oak, cigar box and saddle accents. Bold and dense, it finished long and powerful. Drink 2017–2022.’ – Lauren Buzzeo, Wine Enthusiast, 93/100 (Sep 2014)

‘A dense red, displaying dark currant, fig and blackberry fruit, layered with charcoal, grilled savory and tobacco notes. An iron edge underpins the finish, adding length and cut to match the heft. A serious Cabernet blend. Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz and Merlot. Best from 2015 through 2020.’ – James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (May 2014)

‘The 2011 Estate Red underwent a 21-day skin maceration with malolactic fermentation in barrel and subsequent separate maturation of each grape variety in 85% French and 15% American oak for 18 months. It has a well-defined nose with dusky black fruit, mulberry and pain grille that take a little time to unwind. The palate is smooth and rounded with a touch of soy enlivening the mid-palate and lending the finish requisite tension and vigor. Again, this is very well crafted.’ – Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, 90/100 (Oct 2014)
