About this Item
With a history dating back over 300 years, Vergelegen has kept a simple winemaking philosophy this entire time, ‘there must be harmony between the old and the new’. Having produced fine, modern wines for two decades, Vergelegen is one of South Africa’s highest regarded, established producers. Situated on the Schaapenberg in Somerset West, overlooking False Bay. The 3,000 hectare estate is situated in one of the richest floral regions of the world and they practice sustainable farming and have various environmental projects.
The Sauvignon Blanc comes from the south-west facing slopes on the Schaapenberg at 320 metres above sea level and the Semillon from the south facing slopes of the Korhaan vineyard at 220 metres above sea level. The vineyards are not irrigated.

Critics Ratings
‘Good bright, dark ruby. Superripe aromas of black raspberry, coffee liqueur, chocolate and mocha. Broad, concentrated and sweet, with flavors of dark berries, spices and cocoa powder complemented by salty minerality and sappy oak. Deeper and more tactile than the reserve cabernet and longer on the aftertaste, with subtle herb and mint notes contributing to an impression of lift. I'd give this another four or five years in the cellar before pulling the cork.’ – Stephen Tanzer, Vinous, 92+/100 (May 2013)
‘Blue-chip sem/sauv blend (±70/30) with enviable awards array. 07 classic vtge, promising complex evolution over 8-10 yrs; worth the wait. Still tight & powered by sauv, sem’s oak-spiced rich vinosity more evident on nose.’ – Platter's SA Wine Guide 2009, 4.5*
