In the early 1990s Bettina Rheims embarked on creating one of her major series, Chambre Close. This project marked her first foray into color photography and launched her collaboration with novelist Serge Bramly, combining her images with his fiction. Chambre Close plays with the aesthetic of early erotic imagery – featuring rooms with fading walls and vintage wallpaper – while focusing on the dynamics of eroticism and the often ambiguous interaction between those being photographed and their audience. ¹
