Notes

Prom night in the Karoo. A moment when everyone you know
and love rallies around you to make you feel like the best version
of yourself. You feel the love from those whose words come in
the form of taking off work to fix your hair, stitching the hem of
your trousers and making sure your flowers match those of your
partner's buttonhole bloom. You have an ostrich feather boa from
Oudtshoorn that matches the trim of your dress. Your acid blue
shoes and a deep orange handbag complete the outfit.
Your hair perfectly curled into a loose wired bun and you are off.
The softest moments are only felt when the road to get there is
yet to be tarred.
Matric Dance is a community affair, a parade that flows through
town. It has a hotel balcony moment, a red-carpet arrival and
before you get to truly shake your ostrich feathers everyone goes
across the road to the Old Age Home to catwalk through their
dining hall. Matric Dance – It’s more than a dress.
