About this Item
Notes
This piece speaks to the layers of paint that show up when the light
shifts. The need to open your window at 3 am when you can’t sleep
it’s so hot and there’s no breeze and the curtains simply limp back
into place. You trace the ceiling - the cracks in the plaster make up
pictures of people and creatures and now the shadows on the floor
seem to be telling you something profound. You are losing your
mind. You need sleep. You turn on your side. Heat sticks to your
back. You hear someone pouring a glass of water in the kitchen.
Everyone is awake but no one says a word. Maybe if we are all
quiet, we’ll trick the night into allowing us some rest.
Raw and seemingly robust, this piece is held together by a thread.
At breaking point from its infancy. The chicken mesh that keeps the
plaster in place. In sections where we ran out of mesh, the plaster
droops as if melting in the heat.
