Notes
From the time of Queen Victoria (1837-1901), chests of drawers were rather straightforward and the decorative treatment was reduced. Display cabinets and chiffoniers took their place in public rooms, and drawers were relegated to the bedroom becoming purely functional. The need for home furniture increased towards the middle of the 19th century due to the Industrial Revolution, the rise of the middle class and a surge in homebuilding.
