Notes
William Cripps was a prominent London silversmith of the mid-18th century, renowned for his mastery of the Rococo style. After apprenticing with goldsmith William Daume, Cripps established his own workshop in 1738 and moved to St. James's Street in 1746, where he catered to the aristocracy. Specializing in decorative tableware, his highly ornate pieces, including dishes, candlesticks, and drinking vessels, were highly sought after for their intricate cast and chased ornamentation. Cripps' work is considered a pinnacle of mid-Georgian design and is held in major collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum. Though he died in 1766 without heirs, his legacy endures through his collectible silver pieces.
