An Edward VII silver tray, James Deakin & Sons, Sheffield, 1905
with scroll and anthemion moulded edges, gadrooned handles, face with engraving and inscribed 'Presented to Colonel Charles W. Long M.P, by the Market Gardeners and Fruit Growers of The Borough of Evesham and Neighbourhood; As a token of their esteem, and in recognition of his invaluable services to their industry March 28th 1906', raised on ball feet, 4250g, 76cm long, 48,5cm wide
Notes
This tray was gifted to Colonel Charles W. Long (1842–1911) by the Market Gardeners and Fruit Growers of the Borough of Evesham and its neighbourhood. A British Conservative Party politician, Colonel Long served as the Member of Parliament for the Evesham division of Worcestershire from 1895 to 1910. He entered the Royal Artillery in 1860, attaining the rank of captain in 1874, brevet major in 1881, and lieutenant-colonel in 1886. He later became a justice of the peace and deputy lieutenant of Worcestershire. Long was elected as MP for Evesham in the 1895 general election and held the seat until 1910.
