Notes

Viners Ltd., founded in the early 1900s by brothers Emile and Adolphe Viner (also known as Wiener after being knighted), became one of the most significant names in Sheffield silverware and cutlery. Initially starting as small-scale silversmiths, the company rapidly expanded and, by the post-World War II era, became the largest manufacturer of Sheffield cutlery, flatware, and silverware in England. During the war, Viners contributed to the national effort by producing bayonets. Under the leadership of Adolphe's son, Ruben Viner, the company expanded internationally with subsidiaries in Ireland, France, and Australia. The hallmark for Viners Ltd. silver was registered to son Edward Viner in 1932, later evolving to "E.V" with figures and in 1964, it was "EV" with associated figures. Today, Viners remains a highly respected name in the world of silverware, with pieces by Edward Viner still sought after by collectors.
