Notes

David Shrigley is a British artist born in 1968 in Macclesfield, England. He studied at the Glasgow School of Art, where he developed his distinctive style marked by playful, absurdist drawings, sculptures, and animations. Shrigley’s work often explores themes of life, death, and the mundane, using humour to provoke existential reflection. His distinctive style and sharp commentary on modern life invite viewers to reconsider everyday experiences and the complexities of human emotion. Shrigley has exhibited widely, with works held in prominent collections, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Art Institute of Chicago, Centre Pompidou in Paris, and the Tate in London. In 2016, his sculpture Really Good was unveiled on the Fourth Plinth of Trafalgar Square, London. His collaborations, such as a unique eyewear collection with Cubitts, further showcase his creativity. Shrigley was appointed Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2020.
