About this Item

2013 Saint-Joseph Les Granits
3 (1 x 3) 750ml

Michel’s Chapoutier’s landholding, track record and incredible consistency from entry-level wines through to the single-vineyards is unparalleled in the world of wine. Chapoutier ranked 4th in 2019 amongst the “World's Most Admired Wine Brands“. Chapoutier is one of the oldest names in the Rhone valley. Founded in 1808 by the Calvet family, it was sold to the Chapoutier family in 1855. Today, Michel Chapoutier is the reference-point for the entire Rhône Valley, especially with their single vineyard Sélections Parcellaires. In fact, Robert Parker has praised Chapoutier’s Northern Rhône’s as some of the world’s finest wines.

This lot consists of the following wines.
M.Chapoutier Saint-Joseph Les Granits 2013 (2 x 750ml)
M.Chapoutier Saint-Joseph Blanc Les Granits 2013 (1 x 750ml)

2.5 ha, 100% Syrah. This is a selection of Chapoutier’s oldest Syrah vines (90-100 years) planted in the birthplace of the St-Joseph appellation. Here the very poor, stony granitic soil (suggested by the name) restrains the excessive vigour. South-facing slope.

Critics Ratings

M.Chapoutier Saint-Joseph Les Granits 2013
Very sucky stony with lots of fruit concentration. Hugely distinctive wine. Poor man's Hermitage? Tense and bone dry. Much more chunky and concentrated than Côte Rôtie! Very much a wine of the future.’
– Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (May 2014)

'Lively pepper and bay notes lead the way, followed by more savory details that are easily absorbed by the core of juicy cherry and blackberry fruit. Fresh, showing minerally cut through the finish.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 93/100 (June 2016)

M.Chapoutier Saint-Joseph Blanc Les Granits 2013
A stunning white that's a fair clip better than the 2012, the 2013 Saint Joseph les Granilites Blanc has fantastic notes of gingerbread and almond paste to go with lots of tangerine and citrus-like fruit. Medium+-bodied, elegant and seamless, with a great mix of richness and freshness, it's a smoking Northern Rhône white that readers need to look for.' - Jeb Dunnick, Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, 92/100 (Dec 2014)
