About this Item
At more than 3,200 feet above sea level within the magical Cederberg Wilderness Area, Cederberg Private Cellar is South Africa’s highest vineyard. The Nieuwoudt family have been farming in the Cederberg mountain for five generations, with vines planted as early as 1973, but the brand has been energetically driven to become one of SA wine's real success stories by David Nieuwoudt, now at the helm. Thanks to the isolation of the vineyards and the extreme winters, the vineyards are largely virus and disease free. David has single handedly established an enviable terroir identity for the Cederberg, while simultaneously building other successful, pioneering wine ventures, notably Ghost Corner in the region of Elim.

Critics Ratings
‘So much to love about 2017. Classic New World shiraz flavours of black fruit, smoked meats, coriander & cloves with smoky oak (60% new, 5% American). Supple & silky tannins & fresh acidity keep interest going right through to lengthy finish. Returns to stellar form of 2015 (98 pts) after out-there 2016 (4.5 stars, 93 pts).’ - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2020, 5* (95/100)
‘Sourced from slate soils at high altitude, this goes through a saignée, bleeding off some of the juice for a rosé, to concentrate what's left behind. Serious, focused and stylishly oaked, with notes of mocha and blackberry and a sturdy backbone of tannin. 2021-27’ - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 91/100
