About this Item

2015 Jonkershoek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
1 (1 x 1) 1500ml

Neil Ellis pioneered the négotiant, or non-estate, concept of sourcing grapes from growers all over the Cape and producing wine from the early 70s and, today, has become a pillar and legend of the local industry. Neil’s vision has always been to ‘make distinctive, refined wines that are expressive of their terrain and rank amongst South Africa’s finest’ and, with more than three decades of Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon production under his belt, there are not many who could do it any better.

This is the signature Cabernet Sauvignon of Neil Ellis. 2015 Is the first vintage of a new vineyard planted in the Jonkershoek Valley. It is a distinctive style with all the hallmarks of the Jonkershoek Valley which is known for its balance of elegance and power.

Critics Ratings

'Matured for 18 months in barrel, 100% new. Cassis, violets, vanilla and oak spice on the nose. The palate is sumptuous being concentrated and smooth textured in the best sense, the finish long and dry. Powerful but also has plenty of drive.' - WINEMAG.co.za 10-Year-Old Wine Report 2025, 95/100

'The shaded Jonkershoek Valley is a special site for Cabernet Sauvignon, although this now comes from a leased vineyard rather than Stark-Condé. Deeply coloured, with firm, layered, serious tannins, notes of cassis and mulberry and an undertone of wild herbs.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2018, 93/100

'Notably dark crimson. Pretty subtle, intriguing, appetising nose. Lots of intensity and juice. Also lots of tannic structure but a glamorous, non-flashy whole. Aromatic with lots of clean fruit.' - Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Jan 2020)
