About the SessionFurther afield, the vintage also achieved greatness in classic regions such as Burgundy, Bordeaux, Tuscany and Piedmont. 2015 was an excellent year as Europe had an intensely hot summer and many regions were affected by drought. Although the top wines are still young, the sale offers a range of attractive buys that are ready to be enjoyed.
About this Item
Founded in 1896 by Giovanni Massolino, Massolino is a family-owned winery run by fourth-generation brothers Franco and Roberto Massolino. The property, located in the heart of Serralunga d’Alba, owns 15 hectares of vineyards and is best known for its classic Barolo, which was first produced in 1911. However, the three single-vineyard Barolo wines from the crus of Margheria, Parafada and Vigna Rionda are Massolino’s premier and most highly-rated bottlings. The Massolino wines are incredibly complex, offering great ageing potential.

‘The 2015 Barolo Riserva Vigna Rionda is a magnificent wine that shows all the magic this site is so famous for. All the Rionda signatures open in the glass. Sweet dark cherry/plum, lavender, spice, mint and pine meld together in a sensual, beautifully layered Barolo that pushes all the right buttons. The 2015 is going to need a few years to soften, but it is undeniably vivid and arresting in its sheer allure. 2025-2042’ - Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 96/100 (Jan 2021)
‘Serralunga d'Alba. Lustrous ruby. Beguiling, deep concentrated Marasca cherry nose with savoury notes of exotic spice and soy sauce. Rich, round, supple and almost lush at first followed by a vibrant dose of acidity and very fine, long polished tannins. Finesse and concentration. 2020-2034’ - Walter Speller, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Dec 2020)
