About this Item
Château Raymond-Lafon is a wine estate situated in the sweet wine appellation of Sauternes, 50km southeast of the city of Bordeaux on the left bank of the Garonne River. The estate was founded by Raymond Lafon in 1850 and today boasts 16 hectares of vineyards within the Sauternes appellation.
Louis Pontallier inherited the estate from Lafon at the beginning of the 20th Century. He continued his family's winemaking legacy here until 1952, when he sold the estate to the Bourdier family. In 1972, Francine and Pierre Meslier acquired Château Raymond-Lafon and today their three children have taken over the running of the estate.
The property's vineyards lie in close proximity to those of Sauternes' renowned Château d'Yquem, which lies just to the southeast of Raymond-Lafon.
Sémillon accounts for 80 percent of the grape varieties grown on the Raymond-Lafon estate, with Sauvignon Blanc making up the remainder.

Private ClientCritics Ratings
‘Lovely, with rippling honeysuckle and acacia notes out front, followed by creamed yellow apple, nectarine, peach and mirabelle plum flavors. Long and rich, with an almond hint on the finish, but with bright tones throughout for drive and lift as well.’ - James Molesworth, Wine Spectator, 94/100 (Mar 2018)
‘Hints of cedar and white pepper along with fresh citrus and tropical fruit nuances. Vibrant acidity, long and very tactile. The 25% Sauvignon Blanc is than usual, but 98% of the berries were hit by noble rot. Despite this, it is incredibly fresh and light. 2020-2035’ - Decanter, 93/100
‘This is a rich wine that has a generous full-bodied character. At the same time, the acidity is there, offering some beautiful spice and ginger. This is going to develop so well.’ - Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 93/100
‘Deceptively medium in body, the 2015 Raymond-Lafon offers striking depth and plenty of nuance. The richness of the candied orange peel, apricot jam and pineapple notes is balanced by expressive floral notes that bring freshness and further shades of nuance. This is very nicely done. 2020-2035’ - Antonio Galloni, Vinous, 92/100 (Dec 2017)
