Multiple award-winning 6th generation producer owned by the Nel family, who established the Calitzdorp district in the Klein Karoo and gradually built it to world-wide fame for the quality of its Port-styled wines produced outside of the Duoro valley. Cape Wine Master and Cape Winemakers Guild member, Carel Nel, is extremely knowledgeable about the category of Port, and is crafting (now along with the next generation) a consistently brilliant style of fortifieds from authentic Portuguese varieties that adapt well to this warm and dry region.
The Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve continues the Nel Family heritage of crafting the very finest Cape fortifieds utilising Portuguese varieties, traditional vinification and dedication to style, to create wine that will offer decades of enjoyment.
This wine was produced from four Portuguese varieties on old vines at the farm in Calitzdorp, along with small parcels of top-grade fruit from vineyards that supply Boplaas. Grapes were hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and fermented in lagars, with intense manual pigeage to extract optimal flavour, colour and tannin prior to fortification with wine spirit. It was then matured for two years in old, large-format French oak barrels before bottling, unfined and unfiltered.

‘Always made from the oldest blocks on the property, this four-way blend of mostly Touriga Nacional with Touriga Franca, Tinta Barocca and Souzão is a world-class fortified wine.
