Critics Ratings

Kanonkop Paul Sauer 2015 (1 x 750ml)
'Rightly regarded as SA ‘first growth’ Bordeaux blend, traditionally cab-based with merlot, cab franc; 70/15/15 in 2015 which, though less plush than 2014 in cooler summer, exudes a controlled opulence thanks to satisfying dry finish & firm tannic foundation for extended ageing.'- Platter's SA Wine Guide 2019, 5* (95/100)

'A great wine, with a distinguished track record in one of the best-ever Cape vintages: if any South African wine deserves 100 points, and I strongly believe that it does, then it is the brilliant 2015 Paul Sauer, one of the greatest young wines I have ever tasted.’- Tim Atkin SA Special Report 2018, 100/100

'Sumptuous, luxurious nose with superb clarity of blackcurrant and cherry fruit. Fine vanilla essence on the palate and expertly crafted tannins. Really great purity and density, without being forced at all. There’s no doubt it is an exemplary vintage of a great Bordeaux blend, and its track record suggests it should age for decades, bringing out plenty more complexity.' - Richard Hemming MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (Sep 2018)

Le Riche Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2015 (1 x 750ml)
‘The Le Riches make some of the best Cabernet Sauvignons in Stellenbosch, and this stellar 2015 is no exception. Still closed right now, as you’d expect from such a vintage, this has layers of mocha oak, some green herbs, bright acidity and a vigorous core of dark fruit. One for the cellar. 2020-30’ – Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2018, 94/100

‘Very focused nose with sufficient but not excessive fruit on the palate. Blend of dry cassis and stones. Clean and fresh with impressive length.’ – Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 16.5/20 (Feb 2020)

‘Luscious and plush, with cedar, tobacco and leather aromas ceding to a fleshy, layered palate with notes of graphite, gravel and blackberry spice. A serious effort.’ – Tim Atkin, Decanter.com, 93/100 (Aug 2018)

‘Bold and structured, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve has black and red fruits with oak spice and pleasing dusty florals. The palate is structured and broad with elegant brown baking spices. It is full-bodied with classic beauty and mineral grip, ending with an elegant and textured expression. This wine is delivering nicely for its youth but will deliver even better with age. 9,500 bottles were made.’ - Anthony Mueller, Wine Advocate, 93+/100 (May 2019)

Neil Ellis Vineyard Selection Jonkershoek Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 (1 x 750ml)
'The shaded Jonkershoek Valley is a special site for Cabernet Sauvignon, although this now comes from a leased vineyard rather than Stark-Condé. Deeply coloured, with firm, layered, serious tannins, notes of cassis and mulberry and an undertone of wild herbs.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2018, 93/100

'Notably dark crimson. Pretty subtle, intriguing, appetising nose. Lots of intensity and juice. Also lots of tannic structure but a glamorous, non-flashy whole. Aromatic with lots of clean fruit.' - Jancis Robinson, JancisRobinson.com, 17/20 (Jan 2020)
