About this Item
Since 1981 Eikendal Vineyards has belonged to the Saager family, who originate from Switzerland. Eikendal is situated in an ideal location, on the slopes of the Helderberg mountain near the Atlantic Ocean. This mountain and maritime microclimate provides ideal conditions for the vineyards on the 76-hectare Eikendal property. According to the Cellar Master, 'the magic has always been in the terroir' and, therefore, Eikendal follows a minimal intervention approach in their winemaking.

Eikendal Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
'Showing the power, concentration and structure of Helderberg Cabernet Sauvignon grown on decomposed granite soils, this is a compact, complex, vigorous red that needs more time in bottle. The tannins are very fine.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2017, 93/100
‘Big, bold and concentrated yet with tannins and wood still to integrate, though serious and layered with abundant dark fruit. 2019-2025’ – Decanter (Aug 2018)
Eikendal Classique 2015
‘The 2015 Classique is a blend of the five classic Bordeaux grape varieties. It has quite an intense blackberry and boysenberry bouquet, and touches of mint and graphite develop with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin, quite "solid" and dense in the mouth. The rather opaque finish will require three or four years to soften. One to watch, but it needs to develop more charm. 2021-2030’ - Neal Martin, Vinous (Aug 2018)
'Every bit as good as you’d expect it to be in a stellar vintage like 2015, this stylish, complex cuvée of Cabernet Sauvignon with Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot is very serious indeed, with remarkable structure and power, perfumed oak and layers of dark, inky fruit. Still a baby, but with a distinguished future ahead of it.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2017, 95/100
