About this Item
100% Chenin blanc, planted right next to Skaliekop in 100% decomposed granite. Planted in the early 1980s on the Paardebosch farm, this vineyard also contributes to David & Nadia's regular Chenin Blanc as well as Aristargos, but is released as a single-vineyard wine for the first time in this 2018. Plat'bos means low or flat bush, referring to the small, low bush vines. David & Nadia have been farming this vineyard since winter 2013 and it achieved organic certification in 2018.

'Powerful nose with the soil speaking more loudly than the fruit. Full of personality. Easy to like! Great texture. Racy and relatively lean. No spare flesh. Quite attention-demanding. Very long. Lots of chew on the end but massive fruit before then. Round and friendly. Saline note on the end too.' - Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com, 17.5/20 (July 2019)
'Plat'bos is the third single vineyard Chenin from the Sadies, added to the range for the first time in 2018. Planted on granite soils in 1981, this is also a component in the regular David & Nadia cuvée. Rich and concentrated, yet balanced by stony intensity, some aniseed spice and mouth-watering acidity and palate length.' - Tim Atkin MW, SA Special Report 2019, 95/100
'The name of the maiden 2018 Plat'bos ('low bush') indicates the kind of vines it comes from, lying in a vineyard adjacent to the Skaliekop on pure granite soils. It has a unapologetically silty, stony bouquet, very reserved and austere yet with an enthralling intensity that seems almost paradoxical. The palate is very well balance. Perhaps one of the most concentrated of David & Nadia Sadie's wins, it reveals a crescendo of flavors, with tangerine, citrus peel, stem ginger and a touch of rhubarb toward the persistent finish. This is another impressive Chenin from this producer.' - Neal Martin, Vinous, 94/100 (Oct 2019)
'Astounding addition to the registered single-vineyard chenins, from 1981 bushvines among trellised neighbours, thus 'Flat Bush'. 2018 vibrates with nervous energy, tightly wound, lean & elegant yet substantial, riveting echoes of flavour. Such focus. Same hands-off winemaking as peers.' - Platter's SA Wine Guide 2020, 5* (96/100)
