A pair of Japanese cloisonné vases, in the style of Hayashi Kodenji, Meiji period, 1868-1912
each compressed tapering ovoid body enamelled with four alternating lappets each enclosing a phoenix and dragon joined by shaped cartouches with tasseled borders, the shoulders enamelled with flowerheads and scrolling foliage, the whole against an aventurine ground, with short neck, raised on a low foot, minor dents, 7,8cm high
