A Japanese Satsuma moon vase, Meiji period, 1868-1912
the ovoid body enamelled to one side with an abundance of birds including cockerels and pheasants, the reverse with various birds perched on and below a prunus tree with blooms to one side, enclosed by a gilt diaper band, the neck and shoulders enamelled with gilt flowerheads against a turquoise ground, the shoulders applied with shi shi and ring handles, the domed foot enamelled with mille-fleurs above a band of dots, iron-red seal mark and iron-red and gilt seal mark, minor chip, 24,4cm high
