A Chinese famille-rose baluster vase, Republic period, 1912-1949
finely painted with a celebration showing figures in a dwelling observing a young girl in a garden with two attendants, a pair of Immortals to the right with a further six in a boat rowing to shore, the reverse with black-character script and three iron-red seal marks, the whole enclosed by ruyi-heads and a stylised band of geometric motifs, the shoulders with a band of flowerheads and scrollwork against a turquoise ground, the neck with various blooms and scrolling tendrils against a pink ground, the rim with a band of ruyi-heads, raised on a low foot, iron-red seal mark, 36cm high
