An Imperial Satsuma koro and cover, Meiji period, 1868-1912
the baluster body enamelled with two heart-shaped cartouches enclosing a peacock and pea hen on a scholar's rock amongst peonies and prunus blossoms and a pair of birds before a balustraded garden with an abundance of flowerheads and butterflies, against a cream crackle ground, enclosed by various flowerheads, the sides applied with pierced fan-shaped handles, the shoulders enamelled with eight rondels enclosing taotie masks, minogame, shi shi, phoenix and flowerheads within shaped cartouches against a blue ground, the rim with diaper border and silver mount, the enamelled silver cover with a pierced filigree cartouche enamelled in yellow, pink, green, blue and cream with chrysanthemums, surmounted by a pierced spire-shaped finial, raised on three incorporated bracket feet enamelled with mon, mon and double signature mark, the cover with dents, restoration to the foot, 36,5cm high
